My name is Samm and I'm the momma to the two most wonderful kids in this world, Maisey who is 6 and Cooper who is 3. I'm married to my high school sweetheart, Cody. We just celebrated fourteen years together!

I started this blog as a way to get all of my thoughts and feelings out without driving my husband and every single friend and family member we have completely nuts, as well as a way to document this journey we've found ourselves on. 

When I first began this blog in January of 2020, Cooper was experiencing some issues with his legs as well as low muscle tone throughout his body. I say "issues" because we didn't have a diagnosis and were still looking for answers as to why he was unable to use his legs. At the time, our lives basically consisted of therapy sessions and more doctor's visits than we could count. Not much has changed in that aspect. However, on March 23rd, 2020 Cooper was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy type 2. A genetic neuromuscular disease that, in the past, has almost certainly resulted in death. Luckily, treatment of SMA has come a long way in the last five years and on April 8th, 2020 Cooper received a life saving gene therapy infusion. He isn't cured by any means and he still struggles with this disease daily but he's here, he's alive and he's thriving! 

In addition to Cooper we have the sweetest little six year old ever, my Maisey Grace. Now is where I should say something about how she's a typical energetic six year old. But the truth is, she isn't. She IS energetic, trust me. But she is definitely not your typical six year old. She's wise beyond her years and loves with the heart of an 80 year old woman. She's the most thoughtful, caring and compassionate human being I've ever met and I hope to someday be as good of a person as our little girl is. She loves her little brother more than anything in the world and I know that as long as he has Maisey he will always have someone in his corner fighting for him.

Our family is like most middle class American families. We do our best to get by and teach our children how to be decent humans. We enjoy spending time together as a family but also sometimes just need a break from each other to make sure we still like each other, ya know what I mean? 

In the summer you can find us at our local dirt track watching super late models with some of the greatest people we've ever met. Seriously, we have THE BEST tribe ever. We also really enjoy camping and hope to take several more family camping trips this summer.

Through this blog I'm hoping to keep friends and family from near and far up to date on our newest adventures as well as help any mommas who may be struggling to get their kiddos the help they need.
